The English along with Welsh Pitted Together for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was overseen by rugby icons such as two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

England and their Welsh counterparts have been drawn in the same group for the 2027 RWC, setting up a highly-anticipated pool stage clash in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This draw recalls their famous clash in the group phase of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at Twickenham played a part in the English team's surprise early exit.

Key Group Pairings

The Irish and Scotland have likewise been drawn in a pool together, replicating the scenario from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, they secured a convincing win, with their opponents failing to progress to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, who each impressed as underdogs in the last World Cup, complete that same group.

Notably, the victors of both Pool D and Pool F are kept apart from defending champions and top-ranked South Africa until the showpiece match, presuming the South Africans win their assigned pool.

Tournament Implications

Should the pools conclude according to the current global standings, further top favourites like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from both England and the Irish all the way to the final.

In that scenario, Los Pumas would be the other highly-seeded nation on that half of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Tournament hosts the Wallabies have been drawn together with their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Group A.

The Wallabies will kick off the tournament in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at jump-start the event.

In other groups, holders the Springboks have been paired with Italy, Georgia and the Oaks. France are in a pool with the Brave Blossoms, 2031 hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Format for 2027

Los Pumas will take on the Flying Fijians, Spain and Canada as the World Cup grows to 24 teams from the twenty who competed in France.

This edition will feature a round of 16 round for the first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

Although the winner of Pool F may avoid some of the rugby's heavyweights initially, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – probably the Italians – in the first knockout round.

Four of the other six group winners will play a third-placed side from the pool stages.
