Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
